images Group of Five Campaign (G5C) is five or more Canadian citizens or permanent residents who want to arrange to sponsor a refugee(s) living abroad to come to Canada. All of the group members must be at least 18 years of age and live or have representatives in the area where the refugee will settle.

The group must agree to give emotional and financial support to the refugee(s) for the full sponsorship period-usually one year.

New Investor Program (Quebec)

download Quebec has announced new rules regarding applications for a Certificat de sélection du Québec submitted under the province’s Investor Program. The announcement was made by the provincial government’s immigration ministry on August 27 in a Gazette Officielle du Québec.

The adoption of the new rules came into immediate effect and will last until March 31, 2015. The intake dates for applications submitted under the Investor Program are from January 5 to 30, 2015. Applicants therefore have time to prepare applications before submission.

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for people who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.

Note: To avoid backlogs and ensure fast processing times, CIC will accept no more than 5,000 complete federal skilled trade applications for processing as of May 1, 2014. These are the last applications we will accept under the current system before Express Entry launches in January 2015.

Canadian Immigration Federal Skilled Workers Program 2014 New List

Applications per eligible occupation:

As of May 1, 2014, there is an overall cap of 25,500 for new federal skilled worker applications. This includes a cap of 500 applications from PhD students. There are also sub-caps of 1,000 for each of the 50 eligible occupations. The caps do not affect people with a valid job offer. These are the last applications we will accept under the current system before Express Entry launches in January 2015.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada Announces Immigration Plan for 2014

On Monday, October 28, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander oversaw the tabling of the Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration. The report includes important information on the Canadian Government’s plans for immigration in 2014.

According to the report, Canada expects to welcome between 240,000 and 265,000 new permanent residents in 2014. This is roughly equivalent to target immigration levels over the past few years.
