Group of Five Campaign (G5C): Sponsor a Refugee(s)

Group of Five Campaign (G5C) is five or more Canadian citizens or permanent residents who want to arrange to sponsor a refugee(s) living abroad to come to Canada. All of the group members must be at least 18 years of age and live or have representatives in the area where the refugee will settle.

The group must agree to give emotional and financial support to the refugee(s) for the full sponsorship period-usually one year.

Canadian Family Sponsorship changes 2012

News Release – National consultations on parent and grandparent immigration launched by Minister Kenney

In this news release, Minister Kenney stated that “Our government is fully committed to helping families reunite,” said Minister Kenney. “The feedback provided by Canadians will guide our government in creating a new program in which future applications will be processed quickly and backlogs will not develop. It will also help ensure the program can operate on an efficient and sustainable basis.”

There has been a temporary pause of 24 months put on the Family Sponsorship Program, to allow for consultation on how to revamp the Program for the future. Consultations are ongoing with various stakeholders. The goal is to develop a Program that will not lead to future backlogs. Issues that have been noted are such things as more transparency, being forthcoming in helping people understand the eligibility requirements.

Family Sponsorship Income Level Eligibility

Eligibility

Eligibility of Family Sponsorship to Canada is based on the primary resident of Canada’s income level. We also use a term called LICO in assessing eligibility, which stands for Low-Income Cut-Offs in order to determine whether a person or family can afford to sponsor other members of their family that are currently overseas.

If you and your spouse (2 persons) want to sponsor your father and mother (2 persons), then your income according to the list below

2 (sponsoring persons) + 2(sponsored persons) = 4
