Health Care Assistant (HCA) Program

FreeThe Employment Skills Access Program at Douglas College provides TUITION-FREE group based training for unemployed individuals who need to upgrade their skills in order to get employed, who have not established an Employment Insurance claim in the past three years, or five years in the case of maternity/parental leave.
This 29 week (2 semesters 766.5 hours) program – Health Care Assistant (HCA) are inclusive of the major Health Care sector in BC. Graduates of this HCA program are qualified to work in a variety of health care areas, such as adult day health centers, assisted living facilities, complex care facilities, dementia care units and home health care agencies. Entrance Requirements for Enrollment:- English 11 minimum grade of C or Douglas College acceptable exemption (EN 12 “P”, EN LIT 12 “P”, TPC 12 “P”, COMM 12 “C”), English Upgrading available
- Complete a Douglas College Medical Suitability Declaration on the form
- Submit proof of negative TB skin test or chest X-ray, taken no more than three months before the date of application.
- Submit a current record of immunity or immunization for Hepatitis B
- Submit a Criminal Record Search within last 6 months (Specific instructions will be provided )
- Food Safe Certificate
- Preferred Admission criteria:
- Education – any post-secondary course
- Douglas College courses: EASL 0460, 0464
- English 1124, DVST 0455, or Eng 12 with a B
- 20+ volunteer hours or work experience in a relevant field in the past year (i.e. supporting seniors, working in field of mental health such as victim assistance, hotlines, group care homes, club houses etc.
