A historic boom in mining investment and development, due to an increased global demand for Canada’s natural resources, is set to benefit all regions in Canada. Here in B.C., the mining industry generates thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in provincial revenue. The mining industry’s crucial role in B.C.’s economic future must be balanced against the social license to operate. Finding common ground between all stakeholders is part of Mining Association of British Columbia President and CEO Karina Briño’s vision for strengthening B.C.’s economic future. In her first keynote address to The Vancouver Board of Trade Briño will highlight the need for corporations alongside governments, indigenous peoples and local communities to ensure responsible, sustainable business practices that benefit all British Columbians. In addition, Briño will share her perspective on issues such as the complexity in project review and approval process, as well as infrastructure issues around access to people, power, ports and rail.
