Best Employers for New Canadians
There was recently an announcement that produced a list of the Top 40 Canadian Employers for new immigrants.
There was a range of criteria that went into deciding this final list. For one, all the employers listed have designed and implemented diversity programs within their work culture. They offer additional and indepth training to each employee who is a new immigrant to Canada and they are proactively involved in helping that new person to adjust to the Canadian work culture and to their own organization’s work culture.
These organizations work towards bringing employment barriers down. They do not hire based on “Canadian experience” as has been the traditionally toted route. They help new immigrant employees get their credentials evaluated. They even in many cases pay for the cost of them to do so. They implement a “buddy-system” approach, which allows additional support and mentorship by parntering the new immigrant employee with either one of their colleagues or a senior member of staff and provide individual suppport along the way. These companies invest in the training and development of their managers and ensure that each manager is well versed in principles of cultural competence in the workplace.
Thanks to all these Canadian Employers who have gone the extra mile to create teamwork, collaboration, partnerships, and a more culturally understanding society. We salute your efforts!
